In Detail:

Start of a Session

Downtime

At the start of a game session, a Westbounder may report that they have done two of the following: worked on a Skill, worked on a Characteristic, learn new spells, craft, or roll on the Downtime Chart. These are detailed in the Road West Player’s Handbook.

Shopping

Let the characters get supplies for the journey.

Choose a Destination

The players decide which hex they would like to explore. The hex must be connected to the road.

Roll on the Weather Hex

A player rolls 2d6 to determine the starting weather* for the session. At the start of each in-game day, have a player roll 2d6 to adjust the weather. If the heroes are traveling along a safe road to get to a distant hex, roll for weather for each hex traveled.

WeatherThe Weather Hex (see Appendix A) allows for weather to transition naturally from day to day. While most weather types do not essentially affect the adventure, some do. Hexes marked with symbols can affect the adventure.
* A star in the upper left corner means that the weather has made perception skills difficult.! An exclamation in the upper left corner means that the heroes’ travel is affected, and they must roll skills to combat the weather effects.!! A double exclamation means that the weather is severe, and failed checks result in losses for the party.
