Kowal is in chaos. The Catastrophe wiped out the Red Guard and their stronghold known as the Greystone. Where it stood, there is now only a gaping hole, leading into the dark recesses below Kowal. This destruction is only a stone’s throw from the Walled Tower, home of the Baron, ruler of Kowal. And no one quite remembers what happened that night.

Now the city is struggling to pull the pieces back together. Baron Zadeku has called in help from the Uthgard Empire to bring order to the streets. The House of Kowal, the other ruling government of the city, is split between declaring martial law or letting each ward bring order in its own way.

Meanwhile, the people of the city, most struggling from day to day, are just trying to survive in these chaotic times. Power is sloshing around the city. The question is, who is going to seize it?

A Beginning

You live in the Squats, the poor ward of Kowal. You have a few coppers to your name, but you just got word that a local fixer has a job for some enterprising individuals.

Campaign Starting Date (In Game): Mey 5706, one month after the Catastrophe.

Campaign Goal

You and your allies will join up and help form the burgeoning resistance against the powers that be.

Statement of Intent

This is a dark, realistic campaign. If you cast Elemental Blast in a tavern, the Ministry will find and arrest you. If you kill guards in the street, there will be an investigation. While you are the heroes, you face a powerful and fierce adversary in the powers of the city and the Uthgard Empire. Do not take things lightly. 

Ruleset

Special Rules:

  • Street tough – All of the allies have found themselves as current residents in the Squats. The streets are tough, so you must be tougher. Each character gains +25% to one weapon skill at the start of the campaign. This counts towards the 75% cap of starting characters, but does not impact points in Profession or Personal skills.
  • A little help from friends – Each of the heroes can name a place in the city that they are connected to in some way.
  • A place to call home – Each of the heroes has a small place in the Squats they call home. This could be a small room they rent, an alley with a rough shod roof, or a nook in the sewers.
  • Kowal Skills – Each hero gains +10 to one of the following skills: Swim, Pilot Water Vehicle, Swim, Research; or +20 to the Blacksmith Craft.
