Aedric Chronicles – Chapter 6

Before Dawn

The tree branches creaked under the heavy snow.

Aedric could hear it from his loft. He was having a hard time sleeping. Before the events earlier tonight he might have been losing sleep due to the Trials the next day, but instead all he could think of was Uriaal. He saw those large black eyes, the crooked wide smile. Aedric stared up at the wooden beams and tried to focus, to calm his mind but he could not find peace. As soon as his mind would calm, Uriaal’s face would emerge from the darkness his mouth opening to swallow him.Continue reading

Under the Light of Two Moons

The snow had slowed to a fitful spattering, which blew back and forth among the trees.

Above, the stars had started to come out and both moons already traveled across the early night sky. With the loss of the sun, the air had grown bitterly cold and both Aedric and Darron hunched down in their cloaks. The tracks left by the Laindan were evident in the fresh layer of snow. Darron started off but Aedric stopped him by grabbing his arm. He pointed down towards their large fur boots. While they kept your feet very warm, they made traveling quietly and unnoticed much more difficult. Darron nodded in agreement and both started to remove their cumbersome outer boots.Continue reading

The Night Before the Trials

Snow started to fall in the afternoon, smothering the landscape in white.

Aedric and Darron had spent the afternoon walking through the woods around the commons discussing the earlier council meeting. They had no other chores or responsibilities that day, as those who were to take the Trials where given a day to rest or prepare. Instead, Aedric had been stuck answering his friends repeated questions about every minute detail of the meeting.

Darron’s large fur covered boots sunk into the deepening snow. He turned dramatically and his cloak billowed out around him. “So do you think they would actually fight the men if they saw them?” His eyes were unfocused and gazing far away, his mind on some heroic adventure.Continue reading

Aedric Chronicles – Chapter 3

The Meeting Between the Clans

The midday sun reflected off the icicles that hung from the eaves of the clan hall.

Aedric watched as the two councils entered the large doors of the building, and continued to stand there well after the doors had swung shut. Four guards walked up and took positions outside the hall, two from each clan. They stood on opposite sides of the entrance at attention with weapons at the ready. After staring at them for a brief while, Aedric turned his attention to the others of the Laindan tribe. They were leading their horses away, probably to set camp in the large clearing to the west of the meeting hall. He wondered if their arrival was purposefully near the festival of Wintercome, or if they would be traveling on before it began. His thoughts then went to his parents inside the hall, imagining what they and the other council members might discuss. He was still standing in the clearing when a voice from behind startled him.

“Well, someone has a hard time showing a welcome to guests.”Continue reading

Chapter 2 The One with the Red Eyes

The mountain air was crisp and bitterly cold.

Aedric woke the next morning after a fitful night of dreams. The longhouse was quiet save for the crackling of a small fire in the hearth. His parents must have left for the town commons earlier. They had awoken him while they quietly discussing the council meeting from the night before. He had stayed in bed, partly due to sleepiness, partly eavesdropping on their conversation. It seemed that the other clan, Clan Laindan, was going to arrive at midday today. Shortly after hearing this, he had drifted back to sleep, but now, despite his continued tiredness, he had to wake and do his work around the homestead.Continue reading

The Aedric Chronicles

A heavy fog clung to the tops of the mountains surrounding the valley.

A lone figure crouched on the mountainside looking down on the sparkling camp fires that filled the landscape below. The cool morning air caused wisps of vapor to curl out of his nostrils. His long black hair was pulled back in a tight ponytail and draped down the back of his dark brown cloak. It had all come to this.

Two armies. One battle. And one elf to stop it all.
